RevOrder and the Shopify checkout: what it adds, and what stays Shopify

RevOrder is not a replacement for the Shopify checkout — standard Shopify does not allow one. It is an app that adds the parts a Shopify store in Bulgaria, Romania or Greece is missing around that checkout: rules for cash on delivery, recovery by SMS and phone, local couriers and delivery statuses.

In short

  • The Shopify checkout, theme, products and card payments stay exactly as they are.
  • RevOrder decides which payment methods each customer sees, cash on delivery included, through Shopify's official Payment Customization function.
  • Abandoned checkouts are recovered by SMS, Viber, WhatsApp, email and call center calls, not only by Shopify's built-in email.
  • Orders get waybills with local couriers and shipment statuses back on the order. Messaging is billed through Shopify.

What the Shopify checkout already does well

Shopify's checkout is fast, trusted by shoppers and handles card payments, taxes and discounts out of the box. It also records abandoned checkouts and can send a reminder email. For a store selling by card with home delivery, that is often enough.

The gaps appear in markets where many orders are paid in cash on delivery and collected from a courier office or locker. There, the checkout has to answer questions Shopify leaves to apps: who may pay on delivery, what happens to a checkout the shopper left, and how an order becomes a parcel with the right courier.

Payment rules: cash on delivery is not for everyone

In Shopify, cash on delivery is a manual payment method — either every shopper sees it or nobody does. RevOrder adds rules on top through a Shopify Payment Customization function, the mechanism Shopify provides for exactly this. Cash on delivery can be hidden above an order value, for certain countries or for certain products, and other methods can be reordered or renamed.

After the order, confirmation before dispatch catches a large share of refusals before a parcel ever leaves. More detail: cash on delivery under control.

Abandoned checkouts: more than one email

RevOrder reads buyer intent through Shopify's official web pixel extension, so it sees started and abandoned checkouts without touching the theme. An automation then sends a sequence by SMS, Viber, WhatsApp or email with a link back to the checkout, and higher-value carts can go to a call center call.

Across 25 merchants over 90 days (July–October 2026), 8.6% of abandoned carts that received a recovery SMS turned into an order within 72 hours, with 10–14% for well-configured automations; about one in three call center calls ended in an order. How to build the sequence: abandoned cart recovery.

Couriers, waybills and statuses

Shopify ships with carrier integrations aimed at international carriers. RevOrder connects the couriers local stores actually use — Econt, Speedy, Sameday and BoxNow in Bulgaria, FAN Courier and Cargus in Romania, ACS, Speedex and Geniki in Greece, plus GLS, DPD, DHL and others. Waybills are created from the order screen, singly or in bulk, with the cash-on-delivery amount filled in, and the shipment status comes back onto the order.

What RevOrder does not do on Shopify

  • It does not replace or redesign the Shopify checkout pages.
  • It does not change products, prices or orders — the app only reads products, orders and customers and manages the payment rules.
  • It does not take card payments; Shopify Payments or your payment provider stays in place.

Installation is an app from the Shopify App Store with no theme edits. See RevOrder for Shopify for the full list of permissions.

Questions about RevOrder and the Shopify checkout

Does RevOrder replace the Shopify checkout?

No. Standard Shopify does not allow a third-party checkout. RevOrder works around it: payment rules inside the checkout through Shopify Functions, and recovery, couriers and statuses outside it.

Do I need Shopify Plus?

No. RevOrder does not use the Plus-only checkout extension surfaces. The payment rules run through a Payment Customization function delivered by the app, and buyer-intent tracking runs through the web pixel extension.

How is RevOrder billed on Shopify?

The platform is free. Messages and calls you send are billed through your Shopify bill rather than a separate card balance.

Will a theme update break it?

No. Nothing is injected into the theme, so theme changes and updates do not affect the payment rules or the tracking.
